Winter Reporting And Kids With Cameras

If you visit Winter Reporting’s Legal Conference Center, you will take notice of the beautiful and striking photos on the walls. These images are beautiful and inspiring in their own right, but they represent so much more than just what meets the eye.

In the case of the photos taken in India, these are pictures captured by young children whose mothers earn their living as prostitutes. Due to their circumstances, most of these children don’t have an opportunity to go to school and, of course, this leaves them only bleak prospects for the future.

In 1998, Zana Briski, an accomplished photographer, met these children while working in India. Touched by these young people, she began mentoring them in the fine art of photography and discovered that many of the kids exhibited great ability, as is evident in what you’ve seen gracing our conference facility walls.

Ms. Briski was moved to create Kids With Cameras, a nonprofit organization which sells prints of these photos. The proceeds go towards the children’s educational development and general well-being.

Gigi Cohen emulated Ms. Briski in her quest to merge art and humanity and began a similar workshop in Haiti. The proceeds from those photos go towards helping children who would otherwise be relegated to a life of domestic servitude.

Purchasing and displaying these amazing photos has brought light into my life and the lives of those around me.
